Vintage Hibiscus comes from the Nano Genji mill in the Arago region of Ethiopia. Nano Genji’s sibling mill, Nano Challa, did such a fantastic job with production and processing that it caused their membership to swell to a level that pushed their capacity as far as it could go. Last year, they opened Nano Genji a few miles away with brand new equipment and dozens of drying beds to accommodate their growing membership. With 630 members between the two washing stations, they’re looking forward to continued growth and success. Thirteen years ago, their coffees flowed undifferentiated and undervalued into the marketplace. Once USAID’s Technoserve project, which helped African coffee farmers’ get better prices for their coffee, established the Nano Challa washing station, our partners at Red Fox saw the unique character of their coffee and invested in developing relationships with its producers, which have grown more robust to this day.
This lot was washed mechanically through delvas and then soaked for 12 hours before being dried on raised beds. This processing method translates to crisp, clean flavors in the final cup.
Vintage Hibiscus brings an intense, lively sweetness like candied ginger, and packs hibiscus, lime, cherry, and plum notes paired with a sparkling champagne-like finish. The final cup is a testament to the work put into these coffees during growing, picking, processing, and beyond.
Grab a bag of Vintage Hibiscus and experience the magic of Ethiopian coffee.
