No, Johnny Cash was sadly not at the farm when we sourced this coffee (#RIP). Sitting at around 2000 masl, this coffee was grown at Finca San Sebastian in one of the highest altitude areas in the region. This makes it an incredibly unique coffee grown in a geographically unique zone referred to as the “Ring of Fire” in San Miguel Dueñas, Guatemala. In a cup of Ring of Fire Guatemala, you’ll taste a sweet lemonade-like acidity complemented by a pleasant, honeydew melon-like body and cocoa finish.
However, the final cup isn’t just the result of proper harvest and processing. It’s a result of the terroir as well, which includes altitude. Higher altitudes (aka colder temperatures) cause the plants and cherries to mature more slowly. This yields higher concentrations of sugars and acids, which present themselves clearly in a cup of Ring of Fire Guatemala.
This lot is 100% Bourbon. Known as the pinot noir of coffee, this variety exhibits deep, complex sweetness and a luscious, yet delicate body. The Bourbon plant itself is more delicate and fragile than other varieties, which makes it more risky to grow. However, when done right, it is well worth the risk. Ring of Fire Guatemala is a great example of Bourbon done right. We’re happy to be able to share it with you year-round.
