Hailing from La Paz, Bolivia, this coffee is brought to us by our partnership with Agricafe. Las Alasitas is one of the Rodriguez family’s twelve coffee farms. Agricafe started the project in 2012 as a response to the sharply declining rates of coffee production in the area and to demonstrate to local farmers what can be achieved with modern farming techniques and a scientific approach.
Las Alasitas was planted in 2014 and is named after the Alasitas festival, which honors the Andean god of abundance, and is celebrated in La Paz every year. Las Alasitas is one of the largest of the Rodriguez’s farms and was created with the vision of becoming a model farm that local coffee growers could learn from, thus helping them realize the potential of their land and crops.
This Geisha lot was picked and later floated and hand sorted. Afterwards, it was exposed to a dry anaerobic fermentation for 100 hours inside stainless steel tanks where CO2 was added. The cherries were then placed on raised beds until ideal moisture content was achieved. As a result, the final cup is like nothing you’ve ever tasted in a cup of coffee before. In a cup of Bolivia Geisha, you’ll find notes of jasmine, citrus, and peach, balanced with the sweetness of honey and a delicate mouthfeel akin to black tea.
It’s not everyday that we have a Geisha available, so this coffee is not one to miss.
