CoCo Reflection from Silken Buska:
This Week’s CoCo: Never Stop Learning
So much can be said about this CoCo. In my opinion, it’s one of the biggest we can take into our lives outside work! Some of us took the step to never stop learning by applying for this job! Hard to believe 10 years ago, but I remember my friend telling me I should apply and I didn’t think I knew enough about coffee to work here and she said as long as you have the willingness to learn, you’ll be great. When someone has a love of learning it creates an amazing environment to thrive at work! I would encourage you to look for how you can continue your learning within your job and the company. SC is so cool that they now offer personal/business development classes and what a fun way to grow. Sometimes it means applying or accepting a new position (shoutout to our amazing HR team for when they NSL into their roles)! I remember feeling comfortable at my first cafe and then we were opening Downer and I transferred cafes to help open it which was a great way to never stop learning in that season. Sometimes you NSL by learning your limits by working too much and getting super sick leading to a cancelled trip abroad… but that’s when we speak to the future not the past lol
It’s not lost on me that my last two weeks I get to write about NSL. Thanks everyone for reading my thoughts on our companies values and for the random texts; it truly was appreciated and an encouragement. For me, in this season it actually means stepping away from Stone Creek. Something I never thought I would do, but the Lord had different plans for me that far exceeded my own. SC has taught me so much and I’m forever grateful to have worked for an incredible company that cares so much for its employees. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work here, and turning me (and my husband who hated coffee) into coffee geeks. Thanks Eric for NSL and opening this fantastic place to work. Thank you SC for showing me new and creative ways to #neverstoplearning.
CoCo Reflection from Selina Domenech:
About Selina: Hello! My name is Selina, I have worked with SCC for over 5 years! I started with Stone Creek as a part time baker then, moved to full time baker, and finally my current role as a Bakery Coach! I began baking at a young age so naturally I wanted to go to college for baking. I graduated from MATC with a degree in baking and pastry arts. During my time, I have had the opportunity to be sponsored by SCC and compete in a few cake decorating competitions! When I’m not working I love to go out to eat with friends, go up north, and whenever I have the opportunity I love to travel! So if you have any recommendations on places to eat or places to travel I would love to hear about it!
Next Week’s CoCo: Keep Your Commitments
To me, Keeping your commitments is about trust. Trust that you build when commitments are made and then those same commitments are kept. Commitment keeping helps build trust between: you and the people you are working with, you and your customers, and you and the people you surround yourself with outside of work. Commitments can look very different but, to me, they hold the same meaning.
CoCo Heroes:
- Never Stop Learning: This Core Commitment Hero comes from the Shorewood Cafe Team – Maddi Conway! Maddi C. consistently Never Stops Learning, in the coffee world…and out of it! Upon returning from Guatemala, she was excited to share all of her new coffee knowledge, going so far as bringing beans back for the cafe to try on v60. She’s continues to stretch her knowledge about her coworkers, customers and herself! An admirable showcase of what it means to implement Never Stop Learning into daily life!
- Keep Your Commitments: This Core Commitment Hero comes from the Customer Care Team – Harmony Krafttakacs & Val Newhouse! Not only are they excellent examples of being a good commitment keeper, they are also great at holding others to their commitments, and helping shift priorities around as needed. They understand that the company as a whole would feel the impact of a missed commitment and work hard to make sure we all have what we need!
