CoCo Reflections from Kyle Ryan:
This Week’s CoCo: Clean the Corners
Have you ever heard the phrase, “Eat The Frog?” Though many are credited with coining this expression, I particularly enjoy Mark Twain’s: “If you have to eat a live frog, do it first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you for the rest of the day.” It’s been used as a sort of productivity mantra in the sense that getting the most difficult task done first can set us up for success better than leaving it for last. This can also apply to another phrase I know we all have heard, “Clean the Corners.” Beyond surface-level cleanliness, I often think of it as a call to embrace thoroughness and meticulousness. It reminds us that greatness lies not only in the grand gestures, but also with taking pride in our precise execution of even the smallest tasks. This commitment addresses the overlooked areas of our work, highlighting the importance of not leaving any loose ends. In exploring the many interpretations of this core commitment, Clean the Corners can include attention to detail, personal growth, and the pursuit of excellence.
Picture yourself sitting in a cluttered workspace, surrounded by distractions that make it challenging to maintain focus. It’s the same in a digital space as it is in a physical one. It’s an overload of our senses, provoking stress and anxiety. Scattered messes disrupt our ability to concentrate, hindering focus on the fine details required in our tasks. Overwhelm sets in, leading to procrastination and diminished motivation. As a result, our creativity and problem-solving abilities suffer, and we find ourselves grappling with frustration and a sense of helplessness. It’s incredible how something as seemingly insignificant as clutter can impact our mental health and overall well-being. I strongly recommend the show “Tidying Up” with Marie Kondo for some strong strategies to overcome clutter.
Once the corners of our workspace have been tidied up, next is an invitation to introspection and personal growth. Take a minute or two to breathe and sit with your thoughts. Can you remember when you last took a second to look inward? What feels different than the last time? Life throws a lot at us, and as a result, the clutter of it all can pile up in there and weigh us down. When we set aside time to declutter our minds, it prompts us to confront unresolved issues and self-limiting thoughts. we can embark on a transformative journey towards improvement, self-discovery, and hidden opportunities.
Innovation and growth often arise from exploring uncharted territories. By venturing beyond the obvious and embracing curiosity, we may uncover hidden potential or new paths to success.
In embracing this perspective, we create and maintain a harmonious space that reflects our commitment to clarity. This week, let’s all start on a new journey where no corner remains unexplored or neglected.
Next Week’s CoCo: Create Remarkable Care
Looking for something to help boost your workweek? Enter the Remarkable Care Blend: a bold brew of craftsmanship and exceptional service. At first sip, it’s all about meticulously understanding the customer, just as a roaster carefully selects the finest beans and roasting techniques to create a remarkable coffee experience. Anyone who’s worked in customer service has seen that remarkable care involves taking the time to understand preferences, recommending personalized choices, and ensuring overall customer satisfaction. It emphasizes treating each interaction as an opportunity to create a memorable experience. Next on the Remarkable flavor-wheel, are notes of environmental stewardship and long-lasting relationships with our farmers. These are the more intangible qualities that not everyone will see the direct impact from, however without them, what we’re left with is a bland and uninspired product.
So how can we go above and beyond being just a coffee vendor? I believe it’s all in how we create remarkable care for what we are providing to our customers and community. Similar to the symbiotic relationship between soil and a coffee plant, remarkable care combines consistent quality control and sustainable practices. Just as a healthy soil nourishes the plant and produces high-quality beans, ensuring consistent quality in every cup of coffee requires sustainable practices that protect the environment, support ethical sourcing, and deliver exquisite flavors. Our final product reflects how our farmers and their crops are shown the utmost care and respect.
In the endlessly changing world we have to keep up with, sometimes it helps me to zoom out and back in. Checking out the big picture of how your work fits into the grand scheme of things, and then maybe digging around in nooks and crannies to consider the tiny little ways you contribute and make a difference. It’s equally important to first connect with your personal vision and values, it forces you to consider aspects of yourself you don’t often notice, pay attention to, or are aware needs nourishment. Remarkable self-care in turn allows us to refocus on how we help our teams and community.
Ultimately, “Create Remarkable Care” encapsulates the dedication to delivering exceptional customer experiences, embracing sustainability, and nurturing a supportive coffee industry. It’s about going beyond expectations in order to create something truly sensational and extraordinary.
