CoCo Reflections from Celeste Bayer:
This Week’s CoCo: Be Urgent to the Customer
This was a hard one for me to think about as my role as Employee Care Coordinator. In this role, I do not work directly with customers. So I had to #thinkhard what this core commitment means to me. After talking with Rachel, she pointed out that our customer is different from the everyday store customer. Rather our customers are everyone in the company and any future coffee geeks. We are called to be urgent in different ways. We need to be urgent in our response to candidates and in our response to you all. We all have our different roles to lead to the success of the company and that keeps people coming back. We need you all taken care of so that things can run smoothly up front! Urgency is important, requiring swift action. Everything we do can’t require this urgency, it is just impossible. This core commitment challenges you to prioritize everything you need to do! Sometimes it is easy to get overwhelmed with everything going on, but taking a step back to see what would be the most remarkable and urgent thing for your specific customer, can help you navigate what to do next!
Next Week’s CoCo: Never Stop Learning
By far, this is my favorite core commitment. This is one of the reasons I decided to apply for SCC in the first place. I have always considered myself a lifelong learner. As a kid, I used to just learn a bunch of facts and spout them to my family! Though I have grown out of that, my curiosity has not changed. I find that the world is a fascinating place and the more I learn, the less I know. In my role as Employee Care Coordinator, I have been challenged to #NSL in taking new role responsibilities and continually learning new things. Whether that be about Paycor, hiring, or anything benefits related. What I like about this core commitment is that it pushes you to be the better version of yourself. It asks you to stretch in ways that you didn’t know you needed. I think it also guides each of us in our craft. When you are questioning if you should speak up or try something new, you can always do it in the name of never stop learning. I don’t know how many times I have said, “well, I guess never stop learning,” followed by me full sending it! This commitment allows for growth and also allows for failure, which are kind of the same thing. If you work at SCC then you are a coffee geek who never stops learning, creating remarkable care. This commitment is not just about doing, but it is also a mindset! I encourage you all to continue to never stop learning in whatever way you want this Christmas season!
CoCo Heroes:
- Be Urgent to the Customer: This Core Commitment Hero comes from the Production Team – Bree! Bree has been such a huge help and support to the team through the Holidays by offering to come in early and stay late while taking on additional tasks to ensure all both our team and our online customers are cared for. We are so grateful to have Bree as part of the team!
- Never Stop Learning: This Core Commitment Hero comes from Harwood Cafe – Manning! Manning recently started a Never Stop Learning board in the backroom of the cafe for team members to ask questions. This project is all on his own and we are so thankful for the ways he is growing the NSL spirit on the team!
Going-Ons:
- Brewing Change Project – Dressember: Stone Creek Coffee is excited to be supporting Silken Buska, one of our Wauwatosa Cafe baristas, and Celeste Bayer, our Employee Care Coordinator, in their Brewing Change initiative for the 3rd year! During the month of December, Silken, Celeste, and others will be participating in Dressember. This movement is now a global event where you commit to wearing a dress or tie every day in the month of December. The power of this small consistent action shows the force of everyday advocacy to help bring the much needed awareness and finances to fight against human trafficking. Please see a note from Celeste below with more details about how you can join the team!
- “What started as a fashion challenge for herself, Blythe Hill (CEO of Dressember), slowly transformed into a movement to end human trafficking. Human trafficking is a global problem, which doesn’t exclude Milwaukee. The challenge is to wear a dress or a tie every single day in the month of December. With wearing a dress or tie everyday you have the opportunity to bring so much awareness to the issue of human trafficking. If you want to learn more, you can check out this website here. If you would like to join, you can create your page by going to the website and then from there you can join the team Woven World Collective here. If you would rather not participate but donate, you can do that here as well!”
- SCC Transportation Grant: Hey Coffee Geeks! In striving to be equitable, inclusive, and environmentally conscious, SCC offers a transportation grant
opportunity to a handful of team members each quarter. This grant is awarded based on need. Team members who receive this grant will receive a monthly reimbursement towards a bus pass, bike, etc. If your primary method of transportation to work is something other than a personal vehicle and you are interested in participating, please email teams@stonecreekcoffee. com to request an application. All current and previous recipients should reach out to Teams to request a new application to reapply for the upcoming quarter. We will be accepting applications through the end of the day on Monday, Monday, January 9, 2022. Q1 grant recipients will be selected by the end of the day on Monday, January 16th. Please see the Employee Handbook for additional details or reach out to Teams & People; team@stonecreekcoffeee.com - Casual Friday & Daily Dress Code Reminder: On Fridays, our Retail, Kitchen, Bakery, and Production team members are encouraged to celebrate their unique personal styles. The goal is to provide some flexibility and FUN for our team members during work hours, by relaxing the dress code requirements for one day per week. Team members who work on Fridays can wear whatever they like, so long as their dress choices are within health code guidelines. Stone Creek Coffee graphic tees may be worn any day of the week, but all other graphic tees should be reserved for Casual Fridays.
