The Joy of Taking the Scenic Route

The Joy of Taking the Scenic Route

It's easy to default to the fastest route. Our phones tell us exactly where to turn, we know which streets have the fewest stoplights, and it's tempting to treat every drive like a race against the clock. But every once in a while, it's worth choosing the slower option. Take Lincoln Memorial Drive instead of the interstate. Walk a stretch of the Milwaukee RiverWalk before heading to work. Turn toward the lake instead of away from it. You may not save any time, but you'll probably notice something you would've otherwise missed.

One of the things we love most about living in Milwaukee is how easy it is to find those moments. Watch the sunrise over Lake Michigan at Veterans Park, spend an afternoon biking the Oak Leaf Trail, wander through the Historic Third Ward, or take a weekend drive north through Whitefish Bay before ending up at Doctors Park. Even familiar places like Seven Bridges, South Shore Park, or the Milwaukee Public Market can feel new when you aren't rushing to the next thing. You don't have to leave Wisconsin to find a great adventure. Sometimes you just need to leave a little room in your schedule.

Coffee has a way of encouraging that same mindset.

At Stone Creek Coffee, we spend a lot of time learning about where coffee comes from. We travel to origin, build relationships with producers, explore different processing methods, and continually refine the way we roast and brew coffee. Curiosity has always been part of how we approach our craft, and we've found it often leads to something unexpected. The more time you spend paying attention, whether you're brewing a new coffee or exploring a familiar neighborhood, the more there is to discover.

That's also why we love bringing coffee along for the ride.

A good travel mug isn't just for the morning commute. It's for a walk through Lakeshore State Park, a Saturday at the South Shore Farmers Market, an early drive to Devil's Lake, or a weekend in Door County. Our Stone Creek Coffee Travelers were designed to fit naturally into those moments. Fill one with your favorite pour over, drip coffee, or latte before heading out, and your coffee stays with you wherever curiosity leads next.

Some of our favorite cups haven't happened around a kitchen table; they've happened on the go. The coffee tastes just as good, but something about stepping away from your routine changes the experience. You notice the view a little more, the conversation lasts a little longer, and even a familiar coffee can feel different in a new place.

The scenic route isn't only about driving. It's a way of approaching the day. Try a new Milwaukee neighborhood instead of your usual one. Visit a local coffee shop you've never been to before. Take the long way home after work. Explore a Wisconsin state park you've been meaning to visit. Curiosity doesn't always ask for a plane ticket. More often, it simply asks you to look a little closer.

We think coffee fits naturally into that way of thinking. It's an invitation to slow down, pay attention, and enjoy where you are instead of rushing to where you're going next.

So the next time you're packing up for a weekend road trip, heading to your favorite Milwaukee park, or simply taking a different route home, bring your Stone Creek Coffee Traveler along. Good coffee travels well, but even better, it gives you one more reason to pause and enjoy the journey.
