WTF Is a Flat White?

Flat white… latte… cappuccino… aren’t they all just coffee with milk? While this isn’t entirely wrong, each drink has its own personality. The flat white has been having a moment. It’s the trendy cafe drink popping up on coffee shop menus. But what is it, really? Let’s clear the confusion once and for all.

The Flat White

The classic Aussie flat white is a double shot of espresso topped with steamed milk and a little microfoam in a 5-6 oz cup, yielding a stronger, more coffee-forward flavor than a latte or cappuccino. If you come into SCC looking for a flat white, you won't see it on our menu right now, but you have two options:

1) Tell your barista that you want to try something similar to a flat white. We'll serve you a 6 oz version with a double shot of Green Bike espresso. We think you'll dig it. 

2) If you want to stick to what's on our menu, order an 8 oz low foam latte and add an extra shot. You'll get a little more zip in your cup, and the profile will be extremely similar to the classic Australian-style flat white. 

Latte: The Classic Crowd-Pleaser

A latte is a double espresso with more milk, making it softer, creamier, and the easiest to dress up with flavors like vanilla or caramel. It’s like the cozy sweatshirt of espresso drinks; always reliable, endlessly comforting. At Stone Creek, you can order an 8 oz, 12 oz, 16 oz, or 20 oz latte.

Cappuccino: The Foam Party

At Stone Creek, you can get this in a 6 oz and it is best when served “for here.” Want a larger size? We’ll make a cappuccino with a double espresso and foamy steamed milk in an 8 oz, 12 oz, 16 oz, or 20 oz.

For those in the know, the cortado is where it’s at. Double espresso with just a touch of steamed milk, no fluff. It’s short, balanced, and lets the espresso flavor take center stage. At Stone Creek, this comes as a 4 oz and is best when served “for here.”
