Sweet Foam: What is it & How is it Made?

When you think of foam on coffee, your mind probably goes straight to cappuccinos or lattes—warm drinks topped with silky microfoam. But cold drinks deserve that same touch of texture and luxury too, and that’s where sweet foam comes in. Light, airy, and slightly sweet, this foam adds a velvety crown to your iced drink or cold brew without watering it down.

What Is Sweet Foam?

Sweet foam (similar to “Cold Foam” at a certain large coffee chain) is a frothy, creamy topping made without steam or heat. Instead of the hot milk foam you’d find on an espresso-based beverage, sweet foam is created by whipping or blending cold milk (often with a touch of sweetener or syrup) until it turns thick and pillowy. It sits beautifully on top of iced drinks, slowly cascading into the coffee beneath, giving you a layered sip that blends smooth texture with bold flavor.

How Is Sweet Foam Made?

At its core, sweet foam is simple—milk and movement. But a few details make it special:

The Milk: Stone Creek’s sweet foam uses a mixture of Heavy Cream, Skim, and Whole Milk mixed together for peak creaminess. The mixture of proteins and fats helps to create those silky bubbles.

The Technique: Without steam, sweet foam is made by aerating cold milk. The agitation incorporates air, creating fine, silky bubbles that hold their shape.

The Flavor: A touch of syrup, sweetener, or seasonal spices can be added to give the foam personality. 

The SCC Way: We put our milk mixture in an aerating pitcher with syrup. After blending, we pour it over Cold Brew, Iced Matcha, Iced Chai, or the iced drink of your choice.

• Tips for at Home: You can use a blender, aerating pitcher, frother, or even a French press to create the foam. It’s important to find the right amount of milk to use to create the ideal foam. Too much or too little, and it might not aerate properly. It’s a balancing act!
