This edition of our My Brew series spotlights Kyra, Master Barista at our Glendale cafe, who hand-picked this coffee and shaped the story behind it. From the name to the concept to the ideas that inspired it, here’s her brew, her way.

For Kyra, who sees magic in the small and impermanent, this blend captures a fleeting, warm light. Two high-altitude beans, a natural and an anaerobic process, converge. The cup holds a firefly’s glow: bright with Campari and blueberry, deepening into hibiscus. It is a brilliant, profound, and beautifully transient flavor, a brew to savor while it lasts.

A Note from Kyra, Glendale Cafe's Master Barista

Bugs were always a recurring theme in my life growing up. Bug was my childhood nickname. I spent most of my time catching fireflies, worms, spiders, butterflies, and cicadas during the summers. I was taught very early on that even though their lifespan is short, bugs have been here long before us, and they’ll be here long after. Big or small, we all have a part to play, so make the best of it! Moral of the story: enjoy things while they last, play outside, maybe catch some bugs!

About Kyra

Kyra’s story began eight years ago as a food runner. Driven to learn, she mastered the espresso machine and kitchen line, becoming our Downer Kitchen Manager. Now, as a Master Barista, she is back behind the bar, pouring skill into every latte and warmth into every conversation, actively shaping the heart of the cafe.

What grind should I choose for my brewing method?
Whole Bean

Whole bean coffee is unprocessed and unground, preserving peak freshness and flavor until ground to the desired consistency for various brewing methods.

Espresso

Espresso grind is a fine, powdery grind with a texture like granulated sugar, crafted to create high-pressure extraction, resulting in a rich, concentrated shot with bold flavor and velvety crema.

Aeropress

Aeropress grind is a medium-fine to fine grind, similar to table salt or slightly finer, allowing for versatile brewing times and methods, resulting in a clean, rich, and full-flavored cup.

Cone Filter or V60

Cone filter grind is a medium-fine grind with a consistency similar to table salt, designed to optimize water flow and extraction in cone-shaped coffee makers, enhancing clarity and balanced flavor.

Flat Filter or Cold Brew

Flat filter grind is a medium grind with a consistency like sea salt, ideal for flat-bottom drip brewers, promoting even extraction and producing a balanced, smooth cup of coffee.

Chemex or Kalita

How fresh is your coffee?

Our coffee is roasted fresh to order and ships within 24 hours to ensure peak flavor. For optimal taste, we recommend brewing between 4 and 21 days after the roast date—this allows the coffee to degas and fully develop. After that window, it will still taste great for several weeks (or more), especially if stored in a cool, airtight container.
