OTHER COFFEE COMPANIES WOULD NEVER DO THIS

We found two standout lots featuring rare varietals originating in Africa. The easy decision would have been to release these coffees separately, but the more interesting decision was to blend them.

This just-landed Costa Rica combines two exceptional coffees from producer Eduardo Duran: a washed Etiope and a honey-process SL-28. Each stood out on its own, but together they create something neither could achieve alone. We first selected this coffee when we tasted it at origin in March, then waited for it to be processed and make its journey to us, making this one of our freshest arrivals of the season. Roasted light, with just enough development to build sweetness and a creamy body without sacrificing its tropical vibrancy, the cup opens with orange blossom aromatics and ripe papaya before settling into a smooth, creamy finish.

It's a coffee that captures the excitement of fresh-crop season and reminds us that some of the best discoveries happen when curiosity wins out over convention.

12 oz bags are available for a limited time.

BETTER TOGETHER

Honey Orchard is a limited single-origin blend from Los Duran in Costa Rica’s West Valley, grown at 1,600 meters above sea level and crafted from two celebrated varieties: Etiope and SL-28. The washed and full honey processing highlights the best of both cultivars, creating a cup that is bright, layered, and remarkably expressive. Etiope, an Ethiopian landrace selection cultivated in Costa Rica, is prized for its floral aromatics, refined sweetness, and remarkable complexity. SL-28, one of the specialty coffee world’s most iconic varieties, is celebrated for its adaptability, vibrant acidity, and exceptional cup quality. Together, these varieties showcase the unique terroir of Costa Rica’s West Valley, resulting in a coffee with a silky body, lively structure, and a character that feels both familiar and entirely new.

OUR APPROACH TO THIS COFFEE

Some coffees reward a little extra curiosity. Jes roasted Honey Orchard light to preserve the character of both rare varietals and let their processing methods shine through. Then the real work began.

Our team spent time dialing in brew recipes and found this coffee became even more expressive with a stronger ratio than we'd typically use. At 1:13 (27g coffee to 360g water) and a medium-coarse grind, the cup opens into a creamy body with ripe mango, papaya, and layered florals.

On drip, expect a cleaner profile with bright fruit, gentle agave sweetness, and softer florals. Like many of our favorite coffees, it evolves beautifully: dynamic around day 3 off roast and reaching its sweetest balance around day 11.

What grind should I choose for my brewing method?
Whole Bean

Whole bean coffee is unprocessed and unground, preserving peak freshness and flavor until ground to the desired consistency for various brewing methods.

Espresso

Espresso grind is a fine, powdery grind with a texture like granulated sugar, crafted to create high-pressure extraction, resulting in a rich, concentrated shot with bold flavor and velvety crema.

Aeropress

Aeropress grind is a medium-fine to fine grind, similar to table salt or slightly finer, allowing for versatile brewing times and methods, resulting in a clean, rich, and full-flavored cup.

Cone Filter or V60

Cone filter grind is a medium-fine grind with a consistency similar to table salt, designed to optimize water flow and extraction in cone-shaped coffee makers, enhancing clarity and balanced flavor.

Flat Filter or Cold Brew

Flat filter grind is a medium grind with a consistency like sea salt, ideal for flat-bottom drip brewers, promoting even extraction and producing a balanced, smooth cup of coffee.

Chemex or Kalita

Chemex grind is a medium-coarse grind, similar to coarse sand, designed to ensure a slower extraction and clean, bright cup with pronounced clarity and delicate flavors.

French Press or Clever

French press grind is a coarse grind, with a texture like breadcrumbs or coarse sea salt, allowing for full immersion brewing and producing a rich, full-bodied cup with minimal sediment.

How fresh is your coffee?

Our coffee is roasted fresh to order and ships within 24 hours to ensure peak flavor. For optimal taste, we recommend brewing between 4 and 21 days after the roast date—this allows the coffee to degas and fully develop. After that window, it will still taste great for several weeks (or more), especially if stored in a cool, airtight container.
