Located in Jaén, in the Cajamarca Region in Northern Peru, sits a cooperative of 400 coffee-growers. Santuario was born in 2017 when its small group of leaders left a corrupt organization they had become frustrated and disillusioned with. This experience led them to build a coop whose core pillars are honesty, integrity, and making sure money gets back to the producers. They work to uplift the entire community growing coffee, not a select few. Santuario’s commitment to honesty and transparency, their devotion to quality as a way to add real value to people’s lives, and their dedication to education and growth bring us not only lovely coffees but inspiration. In addition to assisting farmers in accessing the specialty market, Santuario’s focus on long-term sustainability offers a path to consistent profitability for smallholders.
The name “Reservoir” comes from an ongoing project in the region of Cajamarca. The governor has inaugurated 11 reservoirs, each with a storage capacity of 30,000 cubic meters of water, which will irrigate more than 117 hectares of crops in the districts of Cajamarca and surrounding areas. These reservoirs will significantly benefit small farmers across the region.
The coffee used in Reservoir Peru was milled at Norandino in Piura and is a mixture of Caturra, Pache, Bourbon, Typica varieties. It underwent a washed process, imparting sweet and delicate flavors. In a cup of Reservoir, you’ll find notes of candied almonds, meyer lemon, and smooth milk chocolate. A delicate body and sparkling acidity round out these flavors. The care Santuario puts into their practices is evident in the cup. Grab a bag of Reservoir and see for yourself!
