Raspberry Cacao Burundi comes to us from our partnership with the Nyagishiru Washing Station in Northeastern Burundi. The station is located along the Ruvubu River with 200 raised drying beds, and a partnership with 850 coffee-producing families, who farm on 12 neighboring hills in the area.
By prioritizing sustainability, Nyagishiru CWS achieves more than just customer satisfaction through quality—it actively contributes to rural economic growth, environmental preservation, and fair trade promotion. This commitment translates into tangible initiatives, such as aiding farmers with new seedlings to replace aging coffee trees, financing the construction of schools and medical facilities in Muyinga Province, offering significantly higher wages to station workers compared to the average in Burundi, and providing producers premiums of up to 20% beyond local market rates. These actions have positioned Nyagishiru CWS as a global leader in specialty coffee production, instilling a profound sense of pride in Burundi.
Nyagishiru CWS doesn’t merely produce coffee; it crafts an artistic masterpiece fueled by the passion of Burundi’s people. Each sip embodies an elegant, fruity sweetness intertwined with floral notes, leaving a delightful, lingering aftertaste—a tribute to the immense dedication and support the station extends to those in need. Local farmers pour their hearts into cultivating these hometown coffee beans, encapsulating their devotion in every cup.
Raspberry Cacao, our coffee from this station, is a Red Bourbon variety. Red Bourbon is a type of coffee that tends to deliver big cherry notes. This, paired with a dynamic natural-process fermentation, delivers a really vibrant acidity and mouthfeel that will spark some warmth on your winter mornings.
