A “Perennial” favorite among coffee geeks, Perennial Kenya celebrates the seasonality of Kenyan coffee. Featuring SL28, SL34, and Batian varietals that underwent a fully washed process, Perennial Kenya is a characteristically Kenyan coffee with floral aromatics, punchy fruit flavors, and a big mouthfeel. With notes of honeysuckle, apricot, white tea, and lemon-lime, Perennial awakens the senses.
The lot of coffee used for Perennial was sourced directly from the farmers of the Rungeto cooperative. With 1400 active members, Rungeto produces 3,900 bags (60kg) of coffee each year (that’s a little over 12 full shipping containers, which is a lot of coffee). The factories in this society were recognised after liquidation of the famous Ngiriama co-operative society. After liquidation, Karimikui joined with Kii & Kiangoi to form Rungeto farmers’ co-operative society. The factory re-opened in 1997 for coffee processing and has since thrived. After the cherries are harvested by the farmers and delivered to the factories, they are sorted before being pulped. The parchment is then fermented overnight, before being washed and graded. After that, it is dried on the drying tables for 8-14 days. Thanks to careful cherry selection and meticulous processing, coffees from the Rungeto coop are incredibly clean.
