This delicious coffee comes from the smallholder farms within and around the Reko mountainside, outside of the town of Kochere. With a combination of expertly skilled farmers, a diverse microclimate and rich soil, this region is prime for the cultivation of top-tier coffee. These farmers are experienced in the trade and know exactly what their crops need in order to have a full and fruitful life.
Once the coffee is grown and harvested, it gets taken to the Aricha Washing Station. This is run by Faysel Abdosh in collaboration with Testi Coffee. Faysel comes from a lineage of coffee farmers, so he knew exactly what needed to be done. Being a firm believer in working not only with but for the community, Faysel has coordinated with the regional government to get power routed to the homes of the farmers and their families. Testi, alongside Faysel, has invested in building a school for the children in the community.
About a year after opening, this station produced four coffees that made it to the final selection of The Ethiopian Cup. Needless to say, the work that is being done at Aricha Washing Station is professional grade and we are so glad to have worked with the team there. The farmers of the Reko mountains and the Aricha Washing Station have brought us a coffee where the blackberry is front and center with a soft, full body that holds its head high and brings notes of apple and lemongrass along for the ride. Drink up.
