Farm to Cup Story
Grown at nearly the exact latitude of the equator, Equator Colombia is a special treat from Nariño, Colombia that we sourced through Polaris Coffee. This region of Colombia presents a unique climate for growing coffee: it is both close to the equator and in the mountains. Therefore, it is warmer during the day since it receives energy from the sun at a more direct angle than places away from the equator, but it is also colder at night in the elevation of the mountains. The colder nights allow the plants to photosynthesize more slowly, encouraging the coffee plants to mature less rapidly. In turn, the plant is able to develop more complexly. In a cup of Equator Colombia, you can taste the dynamic complexity that this climate has lent the coffee. You’ll experience the tartness of tangerine and cranberries paired with floral notes of jasmine and rounded out with a green tea-like body.
Equator Colombia is the product of collaboration between 35 families in the San Lorenzo and Taminango municipalities of Nariño, Colombia. Alongside their quality control team in Asociación Terra, the farmers worked to identify specific profiles that could be produced universally with similar soil types, elevations, and varieties across their neighboring plots of land. The lot of coffee used for Equator Colombia, called Tropico Sur, is a washed lot of Caturra and Colombia varietals that was dried in the sun.
Get closer to the sun with a bag of Equator Colombia. And sip slowly, because after all, unlike Icarus, you don’t have wings that’ll melt, but the caffeine from a mug of Equator will leave you feeling lifted.
