CORE COMMITMENT REFLECTION FROM MADDI CONWAY
This Week’s CoCo: Speak Up
My girlfriend is an amazing listener but she has a rule with me where she will only listen to me vent about the same thing twice. If I bring up the same problem a third time she always asks, “ok did you say anything to (insert appropriate party)” and if my answer is no she kindly tells me she will not listen to me vent about the same thing until I speak up for myself.
Her firm boundaries with this has taught me so about how important it is to Speak Up in the moment, or for more difficult conversations make a prompt plan to Speak Up. It’s also made me realize that often we are speaking about the situation, but it’s not going to be effective unless we speak to the appropriate person.
Next Week’s CoCo: Speak to the future, not to the past
I love this Core Commitment because in difficult moments, I feel like the biggest question we’re trying to answer is, “where do we go from here?” When we Speak to the Future it helps us break out of the molds of the past and offers us a fresh path to create. It also reminds me that I can change, that I can hold onto the hope that others can change, and that we can do things in a new way. Speaking the future that we hope into existence is the first step towards creating it.
CORE COMMITMENT HEROES
Speak Up: This Core Commitment Hero comes from Oconomowoc – River C! River is always keeping me up to date on what goes on in the cafe when I’m not there and is constantly hitting me up with ideas to improve things. She is a stellar example of someone who gives great thought to the climate of our team and works hard to improve our team and cafe.
Speak to the future, not to the past: This Core Commitment Hero comes from the Glendale – Julie H! Ever since joining our GLN team, Julie has done an amazing job of learning from her early mistakes and being able to adapt and grow every day. No matter the situation, Julie always has a positive spirit and tries to make her coworkers around her have a great time regardless of whether we’re slammed during a rush or it’s super slow and we’re trying to stay busy! She’s always looking ahead to how she can grow and be the best barista she can be. Thanks for being such a great addition to the Glendale team!
EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
Brewing Change – Dressember: Let’s help end human trafficking. Stone Creek Coffee is excited to be supporting Keegan, Customer Care Coordinator, and Celeste Mitschke, the Employee Care Specialist, in their Brewing Change initiative for the 5TH YEAR! During the month of December, Keegan, Celeste, and others will be participating in Dressember.
This movement is now a GLOBAL event where you commit to wearing a dress or tie everyday in the month of December. The power of this small consistent action shows the force of every day advocacy to help bring the much needed awareness and finances to fight against human trafficking.

Brewing Change in January! Hey team! As we look ahead to the new year (already!), we are looking to sponsor a team member led Brewing Change project!
Brewing Change is one of the ways that we get to serve our community and allow coffee to have the power to heal and make an even greater impact! The coolest part is that our Brewing Change program provides a platform for YOU, our team members, to bring about change that you’re passionate about in your community.
If there is an organization or project you’re passionate about in the community, fill out this project request form. Once you complete the form, you can expect to hear from a member of Teams & People within a week to chat more about your idea and see how we can partner with you to bring it to life.
Don’t have an idea now? Feel free to check out the Stone Creek Coffee website for inspiration and drop your thoughts in the form at any time!
Congratulations Graduates : Learning is a lifelong endeavor, and with each new experience, you’ll discover the power of continuous growth. Never stop learning as you step into this new chapter of your life. Because of this, we want to celebrate you and your commitment to NSL! Please fill out this form if you are graduating in December so we can celebrate YOU!
DEPUTY: Great news! You can now search for site-specific schedules directly under the main Stone Creek Coffee location in Deputy. This means you can quickly find who’s working at any of our locations, like the Downer Kitchen, Downer Cafe, or others, just by typing the name of the site in the search bar. Please note, this feature is currently only available on desktop devices or browsers. It’s a simple way to get the schedule info you need for any location, all in one place. Each space should have a desktop or tablet device that team members should have access to, when needed. Check it out and make planning your week even easier!
Employee Satisfaction Survey & NSL Workshop: Keep your eye out for summery on Employee Satisfaction Survey and NSL workshop commitments. Coming out soon!
WORKSHOP FOLLOW UP: As we discussed in NSL workshops, as a B Corp we are always working on how to continue to advance our Pay & Bennies. Here’s a quick recap of some items we discussed:
-
Starting 12/1, PRO & Bakery starting wage increases by $1/hr.
-
In our Cafes & Kitchens, we are bringing more clarity, structure, and guidance to barista/line cook earnings, especially in the context of tenure related to pay goals discussed in P&Ps. It’s about benchmarking “about where can I expect to be after X amount of time.” Attached below is the Retail Tenure example chart shared in workshops.
