CoCo Reflections from Chris Chapman:
This Week’s CoCo: Prepare for Your Work
When I was working at the Delafield location, I noticed a trend during the summer. During the week we would usually have a slower morning rush, but would get swamped right around 10am. It always took me a while to get accustomed to this new pattern, and I’d find myself getting frustrated because I wasn’t prepared for that rush. I think preparing for your work can take many forms, but taking time to process what kind of shift you can expect is a great starting point! If you aren’t prepared for the Saturday morning rush, your shift can look entirely different than if you had taken a little time to process what your day is most likely going to look like. You can also look at who you’re working with so you know if you have newer team members who may need more support as they learn so you’re prepared to help coach them. Reading the Weekly Ops Recap is another great way to prepare for your work. Knowing what is launching and being able to hype those products up to customers during your shift is a way to really crush this commitment.
Next Week’s CoCo: Speak Up
If I’m being honest, speaking up isn’t my biggest strength, especially if it’s a negative speak up. Most jobs I have worked in before only spoke up to me if there was a problem. I didn’t receive a lot of positive feedback, so I began to dread anytime a manager would want to talk to me. As a coach, giving feedback is a huge part of my role. I am learning to make speaking up just part of the culture wherever I work. I’ve been most successful at this when I am focusing on giving a lot of positive feedback. When I do that, the negative feedback stings a little less and can be received better. So, first, I encourage you to find ways to speak up positively to your teammates and co-workers! It’s easy to feel like you aren’t doing a great job, and a quick comment or a shout-out in a group chat means way more. I once had a mentor tell me, “Never let a good thought go unsaid. It costs you nothing to say and can mean the world to someone else.” We really can make someone’s day much better with a few kind words of encouragement. And that makes speaking up about ways to improve or asking for help way easier. Speaking up and giving feedback just becomes part of what you and your team do!

Brewing Change – Bike4Friendship Impact
Bike4Friendship is a cycling adventure and fundraiser for Friendship Circle. This event aims to raise $160,000 to support a cause that creates friendship, skills, and inclusion for people with disabilities. Stone Creek Coffee assembled a group of coffee geeks lead by Claire, a Glendale barista, to volunteer at the event to help set up and run one of the rest stations. SCC donated cold brew for the riders at the rest stop and a “BrewGooder” box for the silent auction.
Thank you to everyone who participated and volunteered – you rock!
Keep an eye out for future volunteer opportunities with SCC!
