CoCo Reflections from Madisen Debord:
This Week’s CoCo: Take Care of Your Coworkers
This CoCo speaks for itself, in my eyes. I think most of us can relate to having a job where we didn’t feel cared for by our coworkers. It definitely wears on you and can affect everything you do in that job. Work becomes this place that you don’t enjoy. My personal philosophy surrounding work has always been that if I’m going to spend a large chunk of my time there, I want to enjoy going. I want to make sure others enjoy going too. So I try to be the person that does care for their team, and it becomes easier when it’s reciprocated as well.
Next Week’s CoCo: Be Here, Physically & Mentally
Every year, around New Year’s I pick a word for the year. After 2020, I picked the word present for myself. I had been coasting through 2020, with all its strangeness, not enjoying life or the job I was working. I passively watched TV or movies just to keep my mind occupied, but I wasn’t really living or enjoying my life at all. Then in 2021, I really honed in on what being present meant for me. I stopped being on my phone when I was doing things, and I really started paying attention. I quit my job that was sucking the life out of me, and I started to live. When I’m at work, it doesn’t have to just be a job. I find myself making real connections with customers, and really listening to them. I make sure when I’m at work, I’m clocked in mentally so that I can not only do the job, but also enjoy doing it.

- Are you interested in using your volunteer time to (1) serve others (2) beautify your community and/or (3) support a cause? Why or why not?
- Are you more interested in group volunteer activities or solo opportunities?
- If group activities are more your speed, are you interested in coordinating a group of coworkers, or prefer someone else to do the coordinating?
- What obstacles, if any, have prevented you from pursuing volunteer opportunities that you were interested in?
- What do you think would help you/your coworkers use your paid volunteer time throughout the year?
- Do you have any requests or ideas about how to make requesting and using Volunteer Time easier?
We look forward to seeing everyone in workshops next week!
