Hey Team, Happy Rocktober –
My son came home from school a few days ago and shared that one of his teachers refers to October as Rocktober. After a quick search on Ecosia (plant a tree when you search) it appears that Rocktober is also used in the context of celebrating Rock n Roll music this month. As I continued my search I also found Rocktoberfest, a celebration of music, film and climbing in the Red River Gorge. I love October and now I also love Rocktober. #NeverStopLearning
October is also the start of quarter 4 at Stone Creek. This is our busiest season. Lots of customers are in our spaces, and we’re doing internal work and planning for 2023. Here are a few things to be aware of through November.
Holiday time off Requests – We are only a few short weeks away from the start of the holiday season. We know that many of us take vacation and need time off for family holidays so please get your holiday time-off requests in early. We work on a first-come, first-served basis for time-off requests over the holidays. If you have any questions, please reach out to your team leader asap.
Traveling Hero Needed – If you’re a barista with a flexible schedule, we need you to #BeAHero! Our traveling hero barista program is a chance for you to earn more money and work at difference SCC cafes across our great city. Please contact Karen at kstrange@stonereekcoffee if you want to learn more about being a Traveling Hero.
Fall Learning Workshops – In two weeks we will kick off our fall workshops. This season’s workshops are scheduled to take place November 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Please work with your team leader to be sure you signed up for your home workshop or if you have a conflict we are happy to have you join another workshop that works with your schedule. This set of workshops will be a time for us to catch up together, talk about what’s coming in 2023, and play a little Stone Creek-based trivia game developed and MC’d by Drew P.
November Throwdown – On Thursday, November 10th we will be hosting our seasonal SCC-only Party & Throwdown. Those of you who were at the last throwdown know what an absolute blast that was. On the 10th this party will include a costume contest, a rice-krispy-treat sculpting contest, and a latte ar throwdown, of course. Food and drinks will be provided. We hope to see you there! Feel free to start submitting your song requests to be added to Drew’s playlist now. You can send those to dpond@stonecreekcoffee.com.
Pay & Performance Reviews – In the month of November we will also be doing our tri-annual Pay and Performance discussions. These chats are invaluable time to connect with your team leader and work together to check-in on your work and plot a course for the coming months. We want everyone to review their craft and our CoCo rubrics. We also want to make sure this time is used for you and your team leader to be consensus on your learning and development goals. Please speak up for the workplace and support you seek. If you feel for any reason that you are not being treated fairly regarding your performance or pay, please reach out to Rachel Perik (rperik@stonecreekcoffee.com) and the Teams & People team. Rachel and her team are here to support your learning and growth here. Together we will build a culture that works for all and celebrates our good work.
Employee Satisfaction Survey – Coming Soon: Please see this note from Rachel.
Multiple times throughout the year we reach out and ask for your feedback regarding an array of subjects, and then we use your feedback to help us Never Stop Learning. On Monday, November 7th, Teams & People will send out our biannual Employee Satisfaction Survey. Through your anonymous responses to these surveys we are able to gauge the perspectives of our employees on how well we are doing as a company and employer. Both the detailed #SpeakUps and #HeroShoutOuts you provide in this survey and the aggregate score give us tremendous guidance and an objective picture of how well we engage with our team members.
It’s important that we get a high volume of participation in these surveys in order to gain the most accurate data. Of course, we love hearing what you think is going well. Moreover, if there is something you want to see improved, please share it. As this survey is anonymous, we encourage you to share as detailed of feedback as possible to best guide any follow up commitments that are captured.
Once it launches, this survey will run for two weeks. Team Leaders, please take a moment in your upcoming administrative time to add reminders about this survey in team communication and team schedules.
Thanks in advance!
Rachel Perik, Director of Employee Care (Teams & People Team)
