COFFEE IMPACT REPORT - MICEPA

PART 4: 7 HARVESTS, 6 YEARS – REFLECTING ON OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH MICEPA
As the saying goes, “Time is a thief.”
When I first started working at Stone Creek back in 2014 as a barista, we were in the infancy of our relationship with MICEPA. Since then, a lot has changed for all of us. At MICEPA, they’ve installed new equipment, updated the mesh on their raised drying beds, repaved the drying patios more than once, promoted family members within their family-run businesses, celebrated births and mourned losses in their families, and more. Simultaneously, countries away, I got a degree, chose an unexpected career in coffee, celebrated my marriage and the birth of our first child, mourned losses, and have held various job titles before landing this one. Stone Creek has opened new cafes, closed cafes, made new partnerships, and more. All of this, only in the seemingly short span of seven harvests, or six years.
In many ways, we are all different than who we were before. And yet, like in all healthy relationships, amidst this change, our relationship with MICEPA has remained a constant. It offers both the farmers as well as us here at Stone Creek stability that is often hard to come by in an ever-changing market economy. In a time when speed and ease of access is so often heralded as success, our relationship with MICEPA calls us to reflect on and appreciate what is good in life. It’s that connection and the experiences we receive from those connections which are only born out of the test of time.
Time may be a thief that seemingly steals away the years right from beneath our feet, but what we get in return is priceless. I am looking forward to seeing what the next seven harvests have to offer.
To honor and celebrate the coffee that we use from MICEPA, take advantage of our $2.00 off all bags of Green Dragon Costa Rica deal until August 23rd, 2020. Grab this coffee and celebrate “Farm to Cup.”
