We are back in Milwaukee after 8 days in Guatemala and Costa Rica! On our last day of coffee work, Saturday, we spent the day visiting a micromill in Monte Copey in Dota. Enrique and his children own four coffee farms, and last year produced the winning coffee in Costa Rica’s Cup of Excellence. After a tour and morning coffee overlooking the Dota region at Monte Copey we hopped in the car and drove south to the region of Chirripo. In Chirripo we worked with two micromills, Los Crestones and MICEPA. We were excited to meet up with our partners again, and were thrilled to see the many improvements at their mills. We worked with the leaders of MICEPA to change how they process our coffee. We asked them to soak the coffee for us for 12 hours after pulping the cherry so that it will produce a slightly cleaner and juicer cup.
On Sunday we were up at 345AM for our journey home….working Farm to Cup.
Here is a photo of the community where Los Crestones and MICEPA have their mills and the surrounding hills where the coffee is grown. Isn’t it beautiful?
