Our “Field Research” team will converge in Guatemala City today. Eric, one of our co-owners, will be flying in from Miami. Upon arrival, the team will be spending Sunday at the Barcelo Hotel in Guatemala City organizing their gear and preparing for the week of farm visits. Along for the trip is our lab equipment – including brix meters and soil kits.
On Monday, the team will be heading into Antigua to visit our friends at the San Sebastian farm. On the farm, among other things, they will be touring the mill, discussing new processing techniques, visiting the drying patios and reviewing the trees and cherries. They will also be taking soil samples to collect data on the soil composition of the farm’s volcanic mountainside.
On this trip one of the hypotheses being tested is whether volcanic soil has an effect on coffee? Stay tuned for more field research updates throughout the week…
