One of our favorite books of all time is Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree. If you've never read it, the plot is effortlessly summed up in its first sentence: "Once there was a tree... and she loved a little boy." Through unadorned text and illustration, this children's story is deceptively simple as it explores the profound power of giving while subtly offering up a discussion as to whether or not there really is such a thing as unconditional love. The reader is confronted with these complexities, receiving no answers, but instead is left to the question, "Is it the act of giving itself or its consequence that truly makes us happy?" (Go ahead and ponder that for awhile, would ya? A children's story indeed. Pshaw!)
No matter which side you settle on, we all know that when we give a gift it does make us feel good, often times regardless of intention. With that in mind Stone Creek's got the perfect opportunity for you get that givin' feelin' as this weekend is the KK Holiday Event, presented by the Bay View Neighborhood Association, and we'll be playing our part to make the festivities grand and good.
We invite you to stop by the Bay View Stone Creek at 2266 S. Kinnickinnic this Saturday, December 1, and drop off a donation of non-perishable food items. Your donation will be added to Stone Creek's Holiday Tree of Canned Goods, a.k.a. Holiday Giving Tree, to be displayed out on the café patio through the end of the evening. All donated food items will then be given to the Bay View Community Center' s Food Pantry.
The Bay View Stone Creek will be open until 9:00PM on Saturday so everyone can join in the giving celebration. Be sure to join the Art Crawl from 4:00PM-9:00PM and support our local artists, too. We'll see ya there!
