Stone Creek Coffee’s Remodeled Downtown Factory Opens Dec. 1 With New Café, Bakery Kitchen, Tours and Classes

Milwaukee, Wisconsin (November 9, 2012) - After nearly 10 months of major construction and renovation, Stone Creek Coffee’s Downtown “Factory” welcomes the public to its new café and bakery with a daylong grand opening on Saturday Dec. 1 featuring free coffee, bakery and tours.

The Factory, 422 N. 5th St., will house Stone Creek’s ninth retail café and the company’s new Stone Creek Kitchen. The Factory will also be open to the public for tours, tastings, coffee classes and other events. The historic, 124-year-old building will continue to serve as the heart of Stone Creek roasting operation, which has supplied coffee to all of the company’s eight other retail locations and to wholesale and e-commerce customers from that location since 2009.

With Executive Chef Aaron Patin at the helm, the new 1,500–square-foot kitchen, located on the second floor of the Factory, will supply all of Stone Creek’s cafes with made-from-scratch, freshly baked goods – that have been designed to pair directly with the coffees.

“Coffee is the inspiration for what we are doing, and the food we are creating will relate back to that, in one way or another, “ Patin said. “By focusing on seasonal ingredients and local sources, we want to elevate the morning coffee ritual.”

The Dec. 1 grand opening starts at 7 a.m. with events throughout the day including tours of the roasting facility and kitchen, brew method demonstrations, coffee cuppings and samples from the new kitchen line. For the schedule of events, please visit www.stonecreekcoffee.com.

The Factory renovations are part of a $1.3 million, two-year expansion and renovation that includes major improvements to all Stone Creek’s neighborhood cafes. About 20 new permanent full-time jobs and additional part-time jobs will be created across the company over two years as a result.

“This project has been our dream for many years, and it’s amazing to see it coming to fruition,” said Eric Resch, President and Chief Sip Slowly Officer. “Our location downtown and a block from the Milwaukee Intermodal Station gives us the unique opportunity to engage people from all over. We look forward to welcoming them into our home and sharing our coffee knowledge.”

Award-winning Kubala Washatko Architects, Inc. designed the new café, bakery and other public spaces in the Factory. The historic building was constructed in 1888 and 1889 and designed by acclaimed “Chicago School” architects Daniel Burnham and John Root. Past occupants included a soap company, radio parts manufacturer, hosiery business, Boston Store warehouse, fixture supplier and antique dealer.
