 2009 Holiday Blend
Our 2009 Holiday Blend brings together two incredible tasting coffees with two inspirational stories. We’ve combined some of the very best coffees from Guatemala and Ethiopia to produce a blend that will be the perfect companion for the holidays. Holiday Blend will treat you to rich chocolate notes that will combine with hints of berries and nuts. The result is a smooth, well-balanced coffee with an ever so gentle finish.
The Guatemalan coffee in this blend was sourced from the Huehuetenango region. This particular coffee was produced with the assistance of Slow Food International, a nonprofit group dedicated to counteracting the 'fast food movement.' With their first project in the coffee world, Slow Food helped to organize a Presidium in Huehuetenango. A Presidium is an organized group of producers similar to a cooperative. The Presidium producers work to protect both the health of the local environment and the well-being of the producers and their families. In addition, producers are committed to maintaining and improving the quality of the coffee they produce, and educational workshops and technical training help to give producers a better understanding of the factors that affect the quality of coffee. This coffee lends the chocolate and nutty notes to this year’s Holiday Blend.
Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union is well known for its production of garden coffee. Their growing areas have the ideal soil type and climatic conditions (altitude, rainfall and temperature) for the production of an extraordinary coffee. Sidama produces approximately 35,000 tons of high quality Organic Arabica beans per year on 70,000 hectares of land. Sixty percent of our beans are washed, with the remainder sun-dried. The Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (SCFCU) was formed in 2001 as an association of 39 member cooperatives located throughout the Sidama zone of southern Ethiopia.. The union strives to be genuine in its product identification, loyal to its members and customers, steadfast in its commitments, and proactive in its response to available opportunities.
