Jess Oppermann, Accounting Manager
My parents dropped me off at college at UW-Milwaukee. They made sure my dorm fridge was stocked and that I knew I would be missed. As they drove away I began a new chapter of my life. Little did I know that it would be the first chapter of an amazing new book.
The early stories of my new book were full of friends and fun. Hard work in class and a job or two helped form my thoughts on what I wanted to do with my life, full of opportunities. This was exactly what college was for. Here I found the things I love, Milwaukee was now my home. The lakefront, the downtown, full of opportunities, there is always something to do. Along the way I found my wonderful husband and I found a profession I know I was meant to do. My love of numbers led me to accounting. Accounting is a universal business language that can be applied in any industry. My opportunities were endless. I found a position in a downtown engineering firm. Here I could use my skill to help the firm. Lots of structure and rules that engineers are famous for. It was ok – but it wasn’t enough. After 10 years, I wanted something more. I wanted a chance to apply my skills in an atmosphere that was more like the early stories of my new book. I wanted friends and fun, hard work and endless opportunities. My search brought me to my current chapter as the Accounting Manager for Stone Creek Coffee.
Here I get to use my skills, try new things, challenge myself and others to make positive change, not just for the firm, but for the community where I work live and play. I enjoy a creative work environment and I get to sip slowly, daily. I have never been so excited to turn the page. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
