Our 2010 crop of Organic Peru is brought to us by the La Florida Cooperative, an association of 849 small-scale producers. Growers from the Chanchamayo region of Peru came together to form La Florida in 1966. Since then, the cooperative has been able to bring much needed education, infrastructure, financial assistance and environmental restoration to this small piece of the Peruvian jungle.
The social premiums paid to producers because of La Florida's fair trade status have been used to establish an education department to monitor and execute social programs for members, establish funds to provide financial assistance to growers, and basic healthcare. La Florida has also formed a development committee that helps the women of the cooperative find ways to contribute to the coffee production in order to contribute financially to their families.
This coffee offers a clean, mild flavor with a gentle brightness and a smooth, pleasant finish.
