Our 2009 crop of Organic Peru is brought to us by CEPICAFE, an association of 35 small-scale cooperatives. CEPICAFE began in 1995 in the Piura region northwestern Peru. The organization was started to ensure fair, sustainable prices to the farmers after a history of loosing money on coffee and the inability to produce coffee for a living.
Now, with the help of CEPICAFE, farmers are able to sustain themselves by growing, harvesting, and selling coffee. Sustainable practices and improving the quality of life in the region are key objectives of the organization. To help be successful with these goals, CEPICAFE developed programs in the following areas: education, productive investment, environment initiatives, credit program, and women’s programs.
This coffee offers a clean, mild flavor with a gentle brightness and a smooth, pleasant finish.
