Our Sumatra IKA Organic coffee comes from small holder farms near the city of Takengon on the shores of Lake Tawar in the Aceh province. The small farms are members of the IKA Cooperative organized by H. Irham Yunus, a local coffee miller and exporter. Over the past several years, Ihram has helped to teach the farmers that he works with organic farming practices and how to improve the quality of their crop. He helps to provide them with natural fertilizers and tools to assist in this process. Irham has also helped to build new schools and healthcare facilities as well as provide funds to repair older Mosques in the area.
Currently, Irham’s cooperative has almost 1200 members. The farms are located between 1100 and 1550 meters above sea level in the small vilalage of Lokop Sabun, Atu Lintang, Jagong and Marie Satu. nbsp;
Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union is well known for its production of garden coffee. Their growing areas have the ideal soil type and climatic conditions (altitude, rainfall and temperature) for the production of an extraordinary coffee. The Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (SCFCU) was formed in 2001 as an association of 39 member cooperatives located throughout the Sidama zone of southern Ethiopia.. The union strives to be genuine in its product identification, loyal to its members and customers, steadfast in its commitments, and proactive in its response to available opportunities.
